چکیده

Based on application practices of the CampusWAMS developed in Western Japan 60-Hz power system and Thailand power system, this paper presents a single-mode-oriented monitoring and estimation scheme of power system small-signal stability. The data filtering technique based on FFT is employed to extract oscillation data for single mode. The auto spectrum analysis is employed to compute the dominant frequency of oscillation mode, which is used to set filter frequency band. An output-only-based simplified oscillation model is developed to estimate the characteristic of interarea power oscillation based on extracted oscillation data. Finally, some analysis results on Western Japan 60-Hz power system and Thailand power system based on measured phasor data illustrate the validity of developed methods and techniques.

A Robust FACTS Damping Controller Design to Mitigate Interarea Oscillations in a Multi-machine Power System

In this paper, damping of interarea oscillations using simultaneous coordination of static Var compensator (SVC) and power system stabilizer (PSS) is considered.  To be effective in damping of oscillations, the best-input signal of power oscillation damper (POD) associated with SVC is selected using Hankel singular values (HSVs), and right-hand plane zeros (RHP-zeros). The 4-machine-2 area...

An investigation on interarea mode oscillations of interconnected power systems with integrated wind farms

The ever-increasing penetration of wind power integration into a power system can produce significant impacts on the operation of an interconnected power system. As the major energy conversion technology for large wind turbines, the doubly fed induction generator (DFIG) will play an important role in future power systems. Hence, the impacts of the DFIG on the low-frequency oscillations of inter...

Online inter-area oscillation monitoring in power systems using PMU data and Prony analysis

In this paper, signals measured by phasor measurement units (PMUs) are used to monitor power system small signal stability. In the proposed method, proper signals selected based on the modes observability and Prony analysis is employed to extract signal damping information (amplitude and frequency of participated modes) in real-time. The proposed method is simulated using a test signal in ideal...

A Novel Algorithm for Rotor Speed Estimation of DFIGs Using Machine Active Power based MRAS Observer

This paper presents a new algorithm based on Model Reference Adaptive System (MRAS) and its stability analysis for sensorless control of Doubly-Fed Induction Generators (DFIGs). The reference and adjustable models of the suggested observer are based on the active power of the machine. A hysteresis block is used in the structure of the adaptation mechanism, and the stability analysis is performe...

Nonlinear Control of UPFC in Power System for Damping Inter Area Oscillations

This paper introduces a new nonlinear control of flexible ac transmission systems (FACTS) controllers for the purpose of damping interarea oscillations in power systems. FACTS controllers consist of series, shunt, or a combination of series-shunt devices which are interfaced with the bulk power system through injection buses. Controlling the angle of these buses can effectively damp low frequen...
